Tour Bericht:

Die Tour ist auf den Wegweisern mit 6h30 angegeben. Wir brauchten mit allen zusätzlichen Caches und Pausen 8 h, haben uns aber definitiv auch nicht sonderlich beeilt, fährt doch von Balsthal jede Stunde ein Zug in Richtung Oensingen bis ziemlich spät am Abend.
Der Aufstieg von Hauenstein auf den Belchen entpuppte sich eigentlich trotz der etwas mehr als 400 m Höhenunterschiede als angenehm. Es ist kein stetiges auf und ab und es ist auch nicht übertrieben steil. Zusätzlich liegt das meiste, wenigstens am Morgen, im Schatten, so dass auch die doch recht grosse Hitze vom Samstag kein Problem war.
Sobald man am General Wille Haus vorbei ist, kommt man bald auf eine alte und Militärstrasse, die zur Fortifikation Hauenstein gehört, eine der drei wichtigsten Verteidigungslinien in der Schweiz während dem 1. Weltkrieg. Mehr Information dazu findet man auf dem Wikipedia Artikel.
Der Jura Höhenweg führt nicht ganz auch den Belchen selbst, doch diese paar wenigen Zusatzminuten und ca 60 Zusatzhöhenmeter muss man sich nehmen, ist der Belchen doch der höchste Punkt für heute mit wirklich grandioser Aussicht.
Danach geht es ähnlich angenehm wieder etwas mehr als 300 m hinunter zum kleinen Weiler Bärenwil, direkt vorbei an einem Restaurant (nein, eingekehrt sind wir nicht, haben nur am nahen Brunnen die Flaschen wieder aufgefüllt). Der darauf folgende Aufstieg von 150m ist zwar kürzer, dafür aber steiler.
Weiter geht's wieder über abwechslungsreiche Wege zur Tiefmatt, von wo aus nochmals ein happiger Aufstieg auf den Vorgipfel der Roggenflue bevorsteht. Das ist das einzige Stück heute, welches als Bergweg ausgeschildert ist, nicht wie alles andere als Wanderweg.
Doch auch das lohnt sich definitiv. Oben geht's dann wieder gemütlich auf gut ausgebauten Wanderwegen weiter. Irgendwie waren wir auch dankbar, mussten wir nicht von Balsthal auf die Roggenflue hinauf, das geht schon beim Abstieg ziemlich in die Knie.
Der Bahnhof von Balsthal als Ziel der heutigen Tour wird im Moment gerade umgebaut, ist ein bisschen ein Durcheinander, aber spannend war die kurze Fahrt auf der OeBB (Oensingen Balsthal Bahn) alleweil, eine kleine kurze Strecke nur, aber man fühlt sich ein paar Jahre zurückversetzt in der Zeit.

Die nächsten Pläne sind 2 Tage am Stück für die nächsten zwei Etappen, da man vom Weissenstein mit den öffentlichen nach ca 17:30 nicht mehr runter kommt.
Dann irgendwann nochmals 2 Tage am Stück bis nach Vue des Alpes, dem Endziel vom Jura-Höhenweg 1.

Tour report

According the official information the tour takes 6h30. We had with all additional caches and all the breakes 8 h, but didn't really hurry as there are good connections from Balsthal until late in the evening.
The ascent von Hauenstein to the Belchen was not as hard as imagined despite the more than 400 m to go up. It's not an up and down and not especially steep. What for sure also helped was that in the morning lot of the ascent is in the shadow. This way the great heat on Saturday didn't hurt too much.
As soon as one passes the house of General Wille you get onto an old military road that belongs to the 'Fortifikation Hauenstein', one of the three most important defence lines in Switzerland during the 1. World War. More information can be found in the following Wikipedia Article (unfortunately only in German).
The Jura Crest Trail does not completely up to the Belchen but you really have to take this additional few minutes and about 60 m hight difference as it's the highest point of today offering a great view.
After that there is a smooth and not steep descent down to the little village Bärenwil, directly passing a restaurant (no, we didn't make a stop over there, we just filled up our bottles with fresh water at the near fountain). The following ascent of 150m is shorter but steeper.
From there we follow again diversified tracks to Tiefmatt, from where another short and intensive ascent to the Roggenflue starts. This part is also the only part today that's labeled with alpine trail, therefore not as easy as the rest of the day.
But it's definitely worth the effort. From there we follow again very good trails on top of the Roggenflue before the heavy descent to Balsthal starts.... we were happy to do this as a descent and not as an ascent.
The station of Balsthal, todays aim, is under construction and it's a bit confusing (they should be finished very soon), but the short trip on the OeBB (Oensingen Balsthal Bahn) was fun anyway, somehow you fell like a few years back.

The next plans are to do 2 days in a row as the public transport down from Weissenstein ends already around 17:30.
After that we plan to take the last two chunks also in a two days trip together, finally arriving in Vue des Alpes, the final aim of the Jura-Höhenweg 1.
